Excludes scheduled maintenance, which we announce in advance. If the underlying hardware fails, Azure restarts the server on healthy hardware automatically, usually within minutes.

Storage holds your brain data (thoughts, links and notes), file attachments and the search index. It can be increased to 0.5 TB if you need more.

Backups from the last 7 days are kept at 4-hour intervals, and one backup per day is kept for 30 days.

Monitoring runs around the clock, and our team responds to alerts and requests during business hours.
What the service doesn't cover.
- TeamBrain user licenses. Each person who uses the server needs one, and we quote them with your server.
- AI usage. AI features are optional and use your own OpenAI key, billed by OpenAI.
- Direct access to the server or its database. Your administrators manage users and brains in TeamBrain itself.
- Automatic failover to a second server. A single server keeps the price low; a restore from backup covers major failures.
- Out-of-the-ordinary service, such as restoring from a backup after a user error like an accidental deletion or unwanted changes. These services are subject to a fee.

- How is this different from TeamBrain in the cloud?
- TeamBrain in the cloud runs on TheBrain's shared cloud service, and the price per user includes hosting. A dedicated server is a TeamBrain server of your own, in the Azure region you choose, used by no one else. Choose it when you need your data in a particular region or country, or kept apart from other customers, without running a server yourself.
- How does it compare with running TeamBrain Server ourselves?
- It's the same TeamBrain Server software either way. Running it yourselves puts the server on your own hardware, inside your own firewall, and your IT team looks after it. With a dedicated server, it runs in Microsoft Azure and we do the installation, updates, patches, monitoring and backups. If you later want to run a server yourselves, your team's synced brains can move to it.
- Which regions can we choose?
- Any commercial Microsoft Azure region, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Western and Northern Europe, Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, India, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Brazil. Azure Government and Azure China are not available.
- How do people connect?
- Your team signs in to the web client at your server's address. In the desktop and mobile apps, they add your server as an endpoint once and then sign in and sync as usual. You can use an address on your own domain, such as brain.yourcompany.com, or one we provide.
- What happens during maintenance?
- We install TeamBrain updates and Windows and SQL Server patches in a maintenance window agreed with you, normally outside your business hours. A maintenance window lasts up to 4 hours, and the server may be unavailable for part or all of it. The desktop and mobile apps keep working offline during that time and sync when the server is back.
- What happens as our team grows?
- We move your server to a larger size as your team grows, without changing the hosting price. Storage can be increased from the included 128 GB to 0.5 TB. Your data stays where it is.
- Is our data ever locked away on the server?
- No. Every synced brain is also stored in TheBrain on your team's computers and devices: thoughts, links and notes always, and every attachment on any device where light sync is turned off. If the server is ever unavailable, people keep working from their own copies and sync when it's back. The same copies mean you can keep everything local in the future, move to a TeamBrain server of your own, or move back to TheBrain's cloud service.
